Dr. Elaine Hunter

Consultant Clinical Psychologist

BSc (1st Class), PhD, D.Clin. Psy, PG Dip in CBT

I became interested in Depersonalisation-Derealisation Disorder when researching my PhD in childhood trauma and joined the Depersonalisation Research Unit in 1999 when it was set up at the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience. Since then I have seen hundreds of clients with DDD for assessment, therapy and research.  I am committed to helping people with DDD to recover and to developing better treatments

I was the lead consultant of the only UK NHS Service at the Maudsley Hospital for 5 years until leaving to set up The Depersonalisation Clinic. I have written many of the key academic papers on DDD from a psychological perspective as well as a self help guide. I have delivered national and international training to clinicians on DDD. I am a Senior Research Fellow at University College London where I am researching DDD

I am a Health Professional Council registered Clinical Psychologist (PYL16183). I am a member of the British Association of Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies (BABCP)

I also actively work with people with lived experience of DDD to raise awareness through media, campaigning and charity work. I am an Ambassador of Unreal (www.unrealuk.org) which is the only UK Charity specifically for people with DDD
